What does a day at Brazosport Barber School look like? Well every day is always different! In the beginning weeks of learning, the student will only be practicing on a mannequin. This is because the student will need to master several skills before being able to work with people. This is considered Phase 1 of the Class A Barber Course. During the course of the study, the student’s mannequin will have many different hair colors and styles. The program has 1000 total clock hours. Students also have the choice of being a part-time (50 weeks) or full time (30 weeks) student.
At Brazosport Barber School, The Class A Barber Program is divided into three phases. Each phase includes projects, theory and practical applications. Our instructors also enjoy bringing more energy and entertainment into the learning process by playing lots of fun games, doing flash cards and providing review material that’s designed to intensify and complete your learning experience with proficiency. In Phase 1, you will learn the fundamentals of barbering. This includes haircutting and styling, perming and relaxing, highlights, skin and nail services and sanitation. Once students pass the Phase 1 Practical Exam, They can continue on to the next phase.
In Phase 2 you will begin working with clients! This will be done under close supervision and support of a licensed instructor. It is crucial that you find clients that are willing to come in and allow you to work on them. This is for your learning experience and in the hopes that this person will follow you as a forever client! You will build your confidence, and develop your professional abilities, advance into the latest trends and techniques. Instructors will teach you the proper ways to do a consultation, the necessary skills to satisfy every client. Once you’ve completed the service, your instructor will help receive payment and get the client rebooked. Students will pass the Phase 2 Practical exam before moving on to the final Phase 3. During this final phase, you will be fine tuning your technical and soft skills of client interaction and retailing in a less supervised setting. Students will also pass their State Board Exam before becoming eligible for graduation.

At Brazosport we strictly use Redken products starting at the shampoo and ending with the finishing style. The Class A Barbers may carry a few added supplies that are not Redken based on their personal styling routine, experience and personal preference. We offer numerous kinds of hair services such as; Shampoo and Blow Dry, Deep Conditioning Treatment, Cornrows, Speciality Braids, Pressing, Haircuts, Perm and Relaxer, Up Do, Color Retouch, Full Highlights, Full Color, Beard Trimming and Shave. The final price of each hair service will be determined by the level of the student performing it. Levels zero and one have no additional charge. Level two has an additional two dollar charge, level three has an additional four dollar charge and level four’s have an additional six dollar charge.
We believe that a well-rounded cosmetology education should include learning by being hands on and not just by sitting in a classroom or classroom setting. When students are learning what skills are necessary to be a cosmetologist, you will soon realize that many of those skills need to be learned and nurtured outside of the classroom setting.
